Essentials in Transfer and Student Mobility Course

Welcome to the Essentials in Transfer and Student Mobility Course, a free course designed to equip transfer professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to support student success in Ontario's postsecondary education system. 

Course Overview

Transfer professionals play a vital role in facilitating seamless transitions for students between institutions. This course delves into key aspects of credit transfer, including historical contexts, current practices, communication strategies, and assessment guidelines.

Course Format and Duration

This course is entirely online, providing flexibility for busy professionals. Each module consists of instructional content, research examples, practical takeaways to reinforce learning.

Because the course is self-paced, participants can progress through modules at their own convenience. Estimated completion time is approximately 4 weeks, though each cohort is given six full weeks from the time they register to complete the course.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Understand the history of credit transfer in Ontario and compare the transfer environment to that of other Canadian jurisdictions.
  2. Define key terms and concepts used in transfer.
  3. Differentiate course equivalencies, articulation agreements, pathways, and PLAR.
  4. Compare course assessment practices across institutions.
  5. Describe the key attributes and common experiences of transfer students in Ontario.
  6. Discuss how credit transfer works at your postsecondary institution and generate ideas for how to improve the student experience.
  7. Identify the key ingredients of transfer advising and describe how to support transfer students from initial contact through enrolment.
  8. See themselves as essential to transfer and student mobility!
